V: The Finale Battle

Does anyone still read this?

I am just about to watch V: The Final Battle - Part 1. It has been a number of years since I last watched this. In fact I remember that I bought Part 1 and Part 2 together on VHS from Bescot Market back in either 2000 or 2001. I did not get to see Part 3 for quite some time, perhaps years. If I remember rightly I bought V: The Miniseries and V: The Final Battle in a VHS boxset around 2004 or 2005 from a car boot sale. (I love my second-hand bargains) The long wait between Parts 2 and 3 left me feeling disappointed with the ending.  So I'm approaching this now with the foreknowledge that I am not going to like the ending of Part 3. I think what disappointed me the most was how quickly the Visitors were driven out. I felt the story should have a been about a large victory, yes - but not the ultimate victory against the Visitors. Elizabeth as the Sparkly Child, I mean Star Child is an element that is oddly jarring with all the realism depicted thus far. What is sacrifice and hard choices in the face of an all-powerful child godess who can resolve the plot conveniently and cleanly.

I actually first learned about V from browsing a relative's video cassette shelf back in the early 1990s. Then it caught my attention again in a magazine about science-fiction in film and television over the 20th Century that was printed in 2000. I read it obsessively whilst on holiday in Gran Canaria and learned about many films and fandoms I would come to love: Blake's 7, Babylon 5, Blade Runner, and of course V. When I returned to England I bought V: The Miniseries on VHS from the old Forbidden Planet store in Birmingham.

Comment, or share your V memory story.

I'm still interested in the original show. I picked up the DVD boxsets many years ago to replace my VHS copies. The 3rd part (the series) ended on a cliffhanger so not the 'deux ex machina' you think it will be.

My favorite character was Ham Tyler.

There are a few people still occasionally writing original V (slash - Donovan/Tyler) fiction - including me on the rare occasion :)

I haven't seen the new series - I have it on DVD but sadly its way down on my 'to-watch' list. I keep saying - one of these days I'll get round to it!

There were some good episodes in the 3rd part. I liked episode 6: Visitor's Choice.

I watched some of the later original V series thanks to my parents, though my memories are hazy - I think I recall the alien-human hybrid offspring.
Oh gosh, Forbidden Planet in Brum, I used to shop there more when I had more disposable income!
I got into the new series fandomwise but I still see a fic being posted for the classic series which is nice :)
